Wimbledon 2011

Sorry to bombard you with tennis news, but ’tis the season.  As they move to the grass courts, the top players remain favourites to win.  Local hero (sort of – he’s really a Scot), Andy Murray, figures to have the crowd behind him (a la Tim Henman).  After his glorious run at the French, Roger Federer is poised to make another deep run in a major, and especially on his best surface.  Novak is fresh off his first loss of the season, so he’ll be battling some nerves in an attempt to prove he is here to stay at the top of men’s tennis.  And, Mr. Nadal, will once again be the man to beat.  Since his string of French Open victories, and his epic win against Fed in the Wimbledon final, Rafa has been in stellar form and year after year poses a threat to all that stand in his way.

Other notables, for me at least, are Andy Roddick, Mardy Fish, Lleyton Hewitt and Marcos Baghdatis (Lleyton and Marcos square off in round one).  As for Andy, Mardy and Roger, their draws are all looking pretty comfortable at least to the round of 16.  After that, they’ll face some danger, but overall, they each received very favourable draws.

Isner and Mahut will try to recapture some of the magic from their epic marathon match from last year, as they have been paired up against each other in the first round (luck of the draw or a publicity stunt???)

I am really looking forward to the next two week’s of tennis.  I hope you’ll have some input as you did for the French.
